To earn the ENS degree, students in the DER SIEN program follow a four-year training program.
Note that for non-ENS students, each course in the program can be selected individually.
In the first year: Third year of a bachelor's degree
In their first year, male and female students in the DER SIEN program take the SAPHIRE dual-degree L3 program. This is a multidisciplinary program in engineering sciences that combines applied physics, electrical and digital engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering. It is only at the end of the first semester, after gaining a more comprehensive understanding of the various disciplines, that students are invited to choose their specialization among these three fields and, consequently, their corresponding DER program.
In the second year: Master 1 E3A
The second year forms the academic foundation of the program. Thus, students in the DER SIEN program enroll in the M1 Electronics, Electrical Energy, and Automation (E3A) program, André Ampère track, at ENS Paris Saclay. They customize their curriculum by choosing one of the following tracks:
- Digital Track, more focused on digital sciences,
- Physics Track, more focused on applied physics, electronics, and energy conversion,
- Generalist Track, balanced between the two previous specializations.
In the 3rd year: specialized year
During the specific year, DER SIEN students have a wide range of program options:
- two M2 Higher Education Teacher Training (FESup) programs, offering the opportunity to prepare for the agrégation exams related to the DER SIEN or to undertake industrial or research internships
- Physics of Electrical and Electronic Energy Systems (PSEE), which offers the opportunity to prepare for the aggregation in Industrial Engineering Sciences, with a specialization in: Electrical Engineering
- Digital Sciences (SciNum), offering the opportunity to prepare for the Industrial Engineering Sciences agrégation, with a specialization in: Computer Science and Digital Technology.
- years of research, primarily in AI (ARIA) and quantum technologies (ARTEQ).
- a year of research abroad: ARPE
- a year of dual degree with a partner school.
- a transition year to pursue studies outside the DER’s disciplinary field, such as biology, earth sciences, etc.
In the 4th year: Research-oriented Master's 2 program
The fourth year of the ENS diploma program completes the training of male and female ENS students according to their personal preferences.
It is dedicated to specialization in one of the many research areas within the DER’s disciplinary field.
